Graham Owen designed, built and ran the first in-vessel composting system in Wales in 2003, organising the largest kerb side recycling collection of green and food waste in Wales to supply the system, in partnership with Monmouthshire County Council. The site is licenced to process 25,000 tonnes of material per year, turning domestic and commercial waste into a valuable horticultural resource.
In addition, Graham:
• Designed systems for treatment of diseased bio material; gaining accreditation from DEFRA Plant Heath for dealing with diseased crops.
• Was the winner of the national "Best partnership with a Council 2005" award, and three years in a row 04 -05 - 06 a finalist in the Wales Environment and Business Sustainability (New Technologies) Awards.
• Is an international lecturerer on recycling for U.K. Trade & Investment in conjunction with U.K. High Commission, DEFRA annual conference, universities, waste industry and waste industry governing bodies.
• Designed a 10,000 tonne environmentally enclosed in-vessel composting site for a client in South Wales. The site currently processes green waste and its operation will extend to include food waste in 2008.
• Is a member of a forum working with Powys County Council and Schools to promote recycling in and around Welshpool in Mid Wales. |
